I have no idea how many toys the average child goes through in their early years or how many children's toys are produced, distributed and ultimately thrown away each year, but I do know that an awful lot of plastic and therefore natural resources are used for this purpose. One of the solutions is using "bioplastic", according to Green Toys: "Bioplastic is made by processing “biotic” (organic) material, in other words those found in nature, as opposed to most plastic products, whose primary raw ingredient is petroleum. The bioplastic used to make Green Toys brand toys is made from annually renewable, sustainable resources derived from plant materials such as corn and other starches. The bioplastic used to make Green Toys contain no Phthalate compounds or BPA. In addition, none of the raw components of the bioplastic are on the list of hazardous materials tracked by the EPA in compliance of the Toxic Substances Control Act (TSCA). The material in Green Toys brand products has been certified as non-hazardous and passes FDA requirements for food
contact."
Here's a bit about the company from their website:
WHAT WE BELIEVE
We believe the world would be a much better place if everyone said “please” and “thank you,” cell phones didn’t ring during movies, and toys were made of environmentally friendly bioplastic.
Since it’s probably no use holding our breath for those first two, we’re concentrating on the toys.
Green Toys Inc. makes an awesome line of classic children’s toys constructed of bioplastic made from renewable, sustainable resources like corn (yep, you read that right). This will help reduce fossil fuel use and reduce greenhouse gas emissions, improving the overall health and happiness of the planet.
All Green Toys Brand products are manufactured and assembled in the USA!!!
