I recently posted the "the Green Clean" which had a few recipes and such for cleaning your home without using a lot of harsh chemicals. Here are a few more recipes and a list of some of my favorite store-bought cleaning supplies for things I cannot easily make:

These are some samples of recipes from Make your own Cosmetics
1) Don't Hate Me Travel Spritz

This easy to make formula smells great and will uplift and soften the mood of even the most irritable travel companion. This product is not to be used on the skin as a toner or face or body spritzer. It's a space freshener only.

Yield: Approx. 4 ounces
Prep Time: 20 minutes
Shelf Life: Indefinite

Ingredients:
40 drops polysorbate 20
20 drops grapefruit essential oil
10 drops bergamot essential oil
10 drops ginger essential oil
5 drops rosemary essential oil
5 drops spearmint essential oil
5 drops ylang ylang essential oil
2 ounces 2 ounces ethyl alcohol (or grain alcohol)
2 ounces distilled water

Blending Procedure:

Combine the polysorbate 20 and essential oils and heat them for 5 seconds in a microwave.

In a separate container, mix the ethyl alcohol and water. Add the polysorbate/essential oil mixture to the alcohol/water mixture and stir well. Pour into a spray bottle and shake well.

The mixture may appear cloudy until it cools to room temperature. To use, spritz lightly for a wonderfully fresh, uplifting aroma.

2) Lemon Cutting Board Cleaner

This easy cleaner is helps keep wooden cutting boards freshened and sanitized. The lemon and essential oil sanitize the board while the abrasive action of the salt cleans it. If you use your cutting board for raw meat, get into the habit of doing this after each use. Never use the same cutting board for fresh fruits and vegetables as is used for raw meat.

Yield: 1 cleaning
Prep Time: no time!
Shelf Life: None, keep refrigerated

Ingredients:
1/2 lemon
1 tablespoon table salt
1 drop lemon
1 drop tea tree essential oil

Blending Procedure:

Sprinkle salt onto cutting board. Squeeze a little bit of it onto the salt.

Add the essential oil directly on top of the salt/juice mixture.

Hold the lemon half in your hand, flesh side down, and scrub the fragrant salt thoroughly over the cutting board. Be sure to get all the nooks and crannies. Repeat as necessary

Rinse the board under warn running water and set in drying rack to dry before storing. This will make your kitchen smell great too!

3) Antibacterial Bathroom Cleaner

A natural antibacterial cleanser that helps you clean your home without hurting the planet. The aroma of the essential oils makes the cleaning experience a pleasure.

Yield: Approx. 1 cup
Prep Time: 5 minutes
Shelf Life: Indefinite

Ingredients:
1 cup baking soda
2 tablespoons (or more) liquid soap
2 teaspoons tea tree essential oil
1 teaspoon peppermint essential oil
1 tablespoon white vinegar (optional)

Blending Procedure:

Measure the baking soda into a bowl with a tight fitting lid.

Add approximately 2 tablespoons of liquid soap (either regular dish washing soap or a natural brand of liquid soap such as liquid Castile soap). Mix well to create a paste-like consistency. If you need more liquid soap to do this, add it a little at a time until the mixture is like a paste -- pliable but not soggy.

Once you have a consistency you feel like you can work with, add the essential oils and mix well again. The addition of vinegar last helps to boost the cleaning power.

To use, scoop out a little of the cleanser and use a sponge or other cleaning tool to gently scrub your tub, shower and sink surfaces. A little goes a long way and the antibacterial effect of tea tree gives you extra peace of mind.
