I am in need of an eco friendly dishwashing detergent and laundry detergent. I don’t really want to order some online, but I haven’t been finding any in the stores I visit. Can anyone recommend something that isn’t too expensive and that I can find at a local store - I live in the Central Valley in California, we have all the “normal” stores like Walmart, Target, Trader Joe’s, Safeway, Raley’s, etc.

I use Seventh Generation dishwasher detergent, and you should be able to find that at Trader Joe's at the very least. You can check their (7th Gen's) web site for availability near you.
I actually just use All Free & Clear (or something like that) for laundry, because the ingredients are identical to Method's. And Mrs. Meyer's stuff is really pretty expensive.
I'm sure others will have great suggestions for you!
1I second the Seventh Generation suggestion! I love their stuff and I find that it is the most readily available, at least in Canada - but as Jennifer said, you should be able to find it at Trader Joe's or wherever. here's their website: http://www.seventhgeneration.com/
2here's where you can find a store: http://www.seventhgeneration.com/our_products/find_store.php
Trader Joe's should have a small section with dish soap and possibly detergent, and Method or Seventh Generation aren't too hard to find at big stores like Target or Wal Mart.
3Method?

5I use the Trader Joe's brand liquid concentrated detergent, and find that it works really well, even in cold water. I used to use the solid, but it doesn't dissolve in cold!
