A lot of eco-friendly companies take new materials (albeit sustainable materials) and create clothes or other goods from them. Maki Squarepatch , created by my pal Enqi and her sister Xin, is a Singapore based online shop and store front, which is all about using vintage materials. Here's what they have to say about their business:

"The story of Maki Squarepatch is about taking discarded/untreasured items, bringing it home and giving it our special touch, and giving it a new life, a new love and a new home. With the same ideology, the motto of Maki Squarepatch is to recycle and reconstruct, for in anything that one person discards, there is somebody out there who will appreciate it and treasure it. Maki Squarepatch is about recycling any interesting materials that we can get our hands on and that we will be happy working with and recreating into something lovely and new.

This store has been open since Oct 2006."

They've recently opened a non-online store called "Maki Squarepatch: Hello eco!" which, in addition to their beautiful creations, houses Xin's original artwork as well as the art of a featured local artist in the store's gallery space.
